Are you using a free server that uses banners or ads, like Tripod or Angelfire? Those servers require you to have ads on your site, and that messes with the coding. Therefore, the layout will look wrong. The only sites that I've noticed that don't mess with the coding are geocites and freewebs.

Well, yeah. You need to at least know BASIC HTML. For some layouts, it would be helpful for you to know intermediate CSS/HTML.

How do I use the layout?
When you download the layout, it will be in a .zip format. Use WinZip, WinRAR, or another program to unzip it. Click the "index.html" file and it will open in your default internet browser. Do you make layouts for LiveJournal, MySpace, Xanga, Neopets, et cetera?
I make my own layouts for LiveJournal and Blogger, but half of the time they are approved mods of other designs. I am not good at all at making those kinds of layouts.
